Voices of the Wild creates an atmospheric virtual environment by harnessing the sonic experience alongside 360 video.
For the project, we have incorporated binaural audio, 3D sound technology which helps heighten the sense of realism. To achieve the best experience, we highly recommend you listen through headphones – otherwise the binaural effect is lost. Together with ambient music and a voice over narration, a real sense of the forest's atmosphere and story is gained. MAKING IT HAPPEN Recording video in 360 is not your traditional videography! Suddenly considerations for video resolution, natural light, mise en scene, and movement are drastically different. While 360 viewing on Youtube and Facebook does pose some challenges (namely internet speeds in Australia), the actual production was very achievable. Using the Samsung Gear 360 camera, we recorded all of our footage in 4k and stitched it together in the Gear 360 application. Our video was masked in Adobe After Effects before it was pieced together in Adobe Premiere Pro. We also used Mettle’s SkyBox 360/VR plug-in to acquire a smooth rendered output, producing the best 360 video quality to enhance the visual experience. For the audio, we recorded on location using binaural microphones, and edited the soundscape with all audio elements together to output a 3D audio file. |
